Natural latex
The core of our mattress consists of 100% natural latex from sustainable cultivation. It offers a pleasant lying feeling and optimal point-elastic support for your body in every lying position. It regulates moisture and heat, inhibits mould growth and is also suitable for allergy sufferers. Our natural latex core contains no petroleum, has been tested for harmful substances and does not emit any harmful substances.
Coconut fibres
The supporting layer on the underside of our mattress consists of coconut fibres that are combined with natural latex. They form a heat-regulating antibacterial base and further extend the durability of the mattress by preventing it from sinking into the gaps of your bed 2.0 or slatted frame.
Organic cotton
The removable cover is washable at 40 °C and made of organic cotton.
Recycled PET
The underside of the mattress cover is made of air-permeable and breathable recycled PET.

Description

A good mattress is the basis for a restful and healthy sleep. The trick is to create a natural base that is neither harmful to the environment nor to your health.

The RIAB natural latex mattress combines both ecological and health aspects and is particularly fair to your wallet. The materials used are a natural alternative to conventional synthetic mattresses.

The point-elastic 7-zone core made of 100% natural latex provides ideal support for your body in every lying position. The material structure and the vertical holes make the mattress core particularly breathable and promote ventilation of the mattress. This not only makes it allergy-friendly, but also prevents mould growth. Due to its high density, the natural latex core is particularly durable and can be used for up to 15 years. The coconut mat on the underside of the mattress provides additional protection and contributes to the durability of the mattress.

The organic cotton cover is removable and machine-washable at 40°C. It's so soft that you might even want to do without an extra sheet. All materials used come from sustainable cultivation, are processed in an environmentally friendly way and are traded fairly. You can find more detailed information below.

FAQ

What materials is the natural latex mattress made of?
We have used almost exclusively natural materials from sustainable production for the mattress. The core is cast from pure natural latex and supported on the underside by a mat made from coconut fibres. Both are wrapped in a soft cover made of organic cotton. Only one side of the cover, which is on the underside of the mattress, is based on a synthetic material: recycled PET. We would have liked to use a natural material here, but so far none can meet the requirements of being both air-permeable and abrasion-resistant.

What makes RIAB's natural latex mattress so special?
Our natural latex mattress stands out in three ways: its sustainability, the promotion of truly healthy sleep and its price. The materials we use are all sustainably sourced and 100% natural (with the exception of the recycled PET on the underside of the cover). Our natural latex core contains no petroleum and does not emit any harmful gases. The point-elastic core adapts optimally to your body in every lying position and prevents back pain and tension. In order to enable as many people as possible to enjoy our natural latex mattress, we offer it at a particularly favourable price.

Where is the natural latex mattress produced?
The mattress is produced in Europe.

What degree of firmness does the natural latex mattress correspond to?
The mattress can be described as medium firm. We have not defined a degree of firmness, as this is usually not very meaningful.

For which bed types is the natural latex mattress suitable?
The mattress is suitable for all bed types and can be used on almost any slatted frame and of course our Bed 2.0.

Who is the natural latex mattress suitable for?
Our natural latex mattress is suitable for people weighing up to 100 kg (from a width of 140 cm, it is designed for 2 people weighing 100 kg each). The point-elastic core supports your body optimally, regardless of the position in which you sleep. The natural materials also make the mattress the ideal sleeping surface for allergy sufferers.

Is the mattress also suitable for people with back pain?
Absolutely! The natural latex mattress supports your body optimally and prevents back pain and tension. You can use the mattress even if you already have back pain. Of course, you can test the mattress yourself for 30 days without any risk. If you don't like it, simply send it back to us free of charge. Please note that you may experience some tension during the first few days as your body first has to get used to the new mattress. So give yourself some time to get used to your new mattress .

Can I try out the mattress?
Since it always takes some time for the body to get used to a new mattress, you can try it out for 30 nights to see if our natural latex mattress suits you. If it doesn't, simply send it back to us free of charge.

What do I do if I don't like the natural latex mattress?
You can take 30 nights to test the mattress thoroughly. If you are not satisfied, we will pick it up free of charge and refund the purchase price.

Why is the natural latex mattress only available up to a width of 140 cm?
Natural latex is a rather heavy material, which brings our 140 cm mattress to a proud weight of 38 kg. As we want to make shipping as easy, fast and cheap as possible instead of using a forwarding agency, mattress widths over 140cm are unfortunately not possible at the moment due to their high weight. However, you can order a double cover to connect the mattresses together. A gap between the individual mattresses is then no longer noticeable.

Is the mattress cover removable and washable?
Yes, thanks to the zip you can easily remove the cover and wash it at 40 °C in the washing machine.

Can I use the mattress without a sheet?
You can also sleep without a sheet on the soft cotton cover. It can be easily removed thanks to the zip and machine washed at 40 °C. A separate changeable cover is available. You can order a separate cover here

Can I use the mattress straight after unpacking?
Sure! While the natural latex mattress usually takes a few days to fully expand, it is nonetheless ready for use right away, providing you with its full comfort.

How do I place the mattress correctly on my bed?
You can recognise the underside of your mattress by the white cover made of recycled PET and the coconut mat that is hidden directly under the cover. Both serve to protect your mattress. There is no defined head or foot end.

How long does it take to get used to my new natural latex mattress?
Especially if you have not slept on a latex mattress before, your body will need a few nights to get used to the new mattress. Even tension is not uncommon during the acclimatisation phase. In order to give you the chance to convince yourself of the mattress at your leisure, we give you the opportunity to try it out for 30 nights. If it doesn't fit, we'll pick it up free of charge and refund your money.

How can I care for my natural latex mattress?
Basically, you should make sure that your mattress is well aired during the day and that moisture can escape. All you need to do is remove the duvet. The mattress core will air out even better if you open the cover and fold it over. This should be done about once a month for at least 6 hours. The mattress cover can be completely removed and washed at 40°C in the washing machine. To evenly load the mattress and prolong its life, we recommend that you turn it 180° about every 6 months - i.e. the head end becomes the foot end.

In a nutshell: the advantages of our natural latex mattress

BREATHABLE CORE

The core of our mattress is made of 100% natural latex. Mattresses made of natural latex - also called natural rubber - are extremely flexible and point-elastic - the optimal combination for your back, even if you prefer to sleep on your side. Unlike synthetic mattresses, the core of the natural latex mattress is 100% petroleum-free. It has been tested for harmful substances and does not emit any toxic fumes. The seven ergonomic lying zones optimally support your body thanks to point elasticity. This keeps your spine straight and relieves pressure on your pelvis and shoulders. The vertical holes and the structure of the material make the core particularly breathable and ensure good ventilation of the entire mattress.

The natural latex for all RIAB products comes from FSC®-certified plantations in Sri Lanka and India and is fairly traded. The high-quality raw material, the rubber or latex milk, is obtained from the bark of the rubber tree. Purified and concentrated natural latex is used for RIAB's mattress cores. This is turned into a kind of 'cream' and poured into moulds. The subsequent vulcanisation gives the natural latex its extraordinary flexibility and point elasticity. In this way, you not only do something good for your body - you also contribute to climate protection while you sleep: rubber trees absorb more CO2 than all other plants. Even a tropical rainforest cannot compete with a rubber-growing area in this respect.

SOFT COVER

The mattress cover is made of cotton from controlled organic cultivation. The breathable fabric is particularly skin-friendly due to its structure. It feels soft and gives even people with sensitive skin a pleasant feeling that can also be enjoyed completely without sheets. Thanks to the integrated zip, the cover is easy to remove and can be washed at 40 °C in the washing machine. Cotton fabrics are very durable - even frequent washing does not bother them, which is especially important for people with allergies and for children. By avoiding herbicides, pesticides and chemical fertilisers, the material is gentle on the skin and has only a very low allergy potential. Genetically modified seeds are also prohibited in organic cotton. During further processing, only dyes and other auxiliary materials are used that have previously been tested for their environmental compatibility. In addition, random samples of the finished fabric are regularly subjected to an independent residue control.

As there is currently no natural material that is both air-permeable and abrasion-resistant, we use recycled PET for the underside of the cover to protect the mattress from below and extend its durability.

SUPPORTING COCONUT MAT

The coconut mat on the underside of the mattress optimally supports the elastic natural latex core and prevents it from sinking into the gaps of your bed 2.0 or slatted frame. It protects the mattress core and makes the mattress particularly durable.

For the coconut mat, natural coconut fibres are bonded together with the help of natural latex from sustainable cultivation and thus form a heat-regulating antibacterial underlay that is particularly breathable due to its open structure.

The coconut fibres are extracted from the coconut shell - a resource that is widely available. Of the nuts, only the white flesh is usually used by the food industry. Instead of ending up as a waste product, the shells and outer fibres are processed into coconut mats as a valuable raw material. To make the fibres elastic and create a very open and ventilating structure, they are spun into ropes. These ropes are formed into a fleece and then sprayed with natural latex, the sap of the rubber tree, to give structure and elasticity. The structure not only creates a good microclimate, it also absorbs sound and has shock-absorbing properties as well. The latex used is 100% natural, completely biodegradable, uses much less energy in production compared to synthetic rubber and does not contain any chemicals or masking agents that are hazardous to health.
