WHY CORRUGATED CARDBOARD?

Corrugated cardboard has an undeservedly bad reputation. You probably know it best as packaging material that gets discarded right away. Even as moving boxes, it often leaves a bad impression because the handles tear or the bottom falls out.

So why do we use corrugated cardboard for furniture construction?

Simple: Not all corrugated cardboard is the same!

AVANA CORRUGATED CARDBOARD

Corrugated cardboard consists of multiple layers of paper bonded together with starch adhesive to form its characteristic shape. The combination of smooth and wavy paper layers creates a new, lightweight material with extremely high rigidity. The quality of the paper used determines the strength of the corrugated cardboard. In the case of shipping or moving boxes, these papers are usually quite light and inexpensive.

For the production of our cardboard furniture, however, we exclusively use special AVANA corrugated cardboard. High-quality kraft papers weighing up to 300 g/m² are laminated together in multiple layers. For comparison: regular copy paper weighs 80 g/m². The use of strong kraft paper makes our furniture highly durable - even resistant to liquids - ensuring longevity. In fact, our material can do much more than one might initially expect. Our cardboard beds, for example, can support many times their own weight, and our versatile stool/nightstand can hold up to 100 kg while weighing only 800 g itself. The combination of high-quality paper and smart design is the key to our cardboard furniture’s stability.

CORRUGATED CARDBOARD HAS EVEN MORE TO OFFER

It’s not just its stability that won us over - corrugated cardboard is also an extremely eco-friendly material. It consists of 54% to 80% recycled paper fibers and is 100% recyclable. Even cardboard waste generated during production can be directly fed back into the raw material cycle, enabling zero-waste production.

As a hygroscopic material, corrugated cardboard can absorb and release moisture from the air, helping to regulate room climate. Its sound-absorbing properties also improve room acoustics, making cardboard furniture particularly valuable in office spaces.

Corrugated cardboard is also incredibly versatile: It can be decorated, colored, and customized, offering creative freedom where it’s needed most.

Finally, one major advantage makes corrugated cardboard a game changer in the world of furniture: its lightweight nature! Cardboard furniture weighs only a fraction of traditional furniture made from wood, metal, or composite materials. This not only makes rearranging your space easier but also simplifies moving—because you can carry it all by yourself!
